Notice to Taxpayers Polo Grounds, New York, Oct. 9. Macks first kid pitcher made good today, when Bush, tile Salt Lake City youngster, hud the Giants-at his mercy at all times, lot ting them down with a scant pair of runs and five hits. The Athletics, on the other hand, got to Tesreau and Crandall for 8 runs and 12 hits. The Athletics took the jump right at the start, bunching hits in first and second.

Again in the seventh they hit Tesreau for a triple and two singles, netting two runs. Then the Ozark giant went to the bench. Crandall started nicely, but Scliang made a homer. The Athletics outplayed, outfielded and outbatted the Giants in every department. Batteries Tesreau and McLean for the Giants; Athletics, Bush and Scliang.

Philadelphia. Pa. (Shlhe Park), Oct. 10. The Athletics won their third victory from the Giants, 6 to 5, today, and as a result the Giants will be forced to win two in a row to tie up the series.

Demaree started for the Giants, but proved an easy victim, and was driven from the mound in the fourth. He was touched up for seven hits and four runs. The first inning Marquard worked he also gave two runs, but after that tiad the Athletics at his mercy. The Giants finished strong, making three runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth, when Bender tightened up. After Burns and Murray singled in the seventh, Merkle slammed a long hit to deep lft which boundeJ into tlie bleachers for a notne run.

Then Herzog singled in the eighth. Doyle forced Herzog and Fletcher Doyle. Burns doubled, Bcoritig Fletcher. Shafer laced a triple to deep right, scoring Burns. Luck broke against the Giants.

Two of the Athletic's hits would liave been easy outs had Snodgrass been in condition. He had Charlie horse" so bad that he was forced out of the game. Batteries: Athletics Bender and Scliang; Giants Demaree and Me Lean. New York, Oct. 11.

McGraw's hopes went a glimmering today when Plank, pitching unbeatable ball, twirled the Athletics to tne world's championship. Philadelphia defeated New York 3 to 1 in the final game of the series. Plank held the Giants to two hits and was never pressed. Mathew-son pitched sterling hall after the third inning, five hits being made off him in the first three innings. Planks team-mates carried him off tire grounds on their shoulders.

The Giants efforts looked puny, McLean and Mathewson alone landing safely. None of the runs made against Mathewson were really earned, as errors by Hoyle and Burns were responsible. Tin hitler throwing high to the plate in an effort, to head off the Athletics. Batteries: Giants Mathewson and McLean; Athletics Plank and Scliang. Following are Hie daily scores of tlie two teams: October 7: New York, Oct.

11. Duns icview makes the following report this week: Adjustment to new conditions following the enactment of tin tariff bill has resulted in some irregularity, yet, in a broad sense, the situation reflects continued improvement. Reports indicate that the volume of trade is enlarging. The paucity of supplies is so marked in certain lines that difficulty is experienced in filling immediate needs, with shortage of labor hampering some manufacturers. Tlie demand in both jobbing and retail circles continues brisk at the highest prices of the year tor many products.

Failures this week number 2M in the United States against 3o2 Iasi year, and 31 in Canada compared with 30 a year ago. Rradstreet's reports tlie following-cross currents in trade matters are noticeable. However, distributive trade sentiment is optimistic, tlie influence of crop money is being felt in agricultural districts and demand for prompt shipment of textiles is a pronounced feature of a scantily supplied market. Liberal reports indicate that trade generally is ahead of last year when jobbers and manufacturers were enjoying especial activity. Yet it is probably that trade is a shade, less active than last week, dm to an intermingling of various factors.

Changed tariff conditions, believed by many to have been discounted, tend to restrict buying, pending clearer views on price trends and effects of withdrawals from bonded warehouses. Business failures for tlie week end ing October 9 were 314. Wheat, including Hour, extuuts from tlie United States and Canad.i for the week aggregate 6, 148.94s against li, 431,281 last year. ll.e-l i BACK AGAIN' HlOU EUROPE. i -As rA' 1 Fresno, Oct.

10. The Associated Raisin Company have come forward with a request to members of the lompiiny lu limy have money to loan, that they do so with thq Associated and reap a 7 tier cent interest rate, in this way the money needed to carry on the work of the company ill tie furnished by those interested and lu-nce lie banks will not reap the profits which might just as well go to tin growers. Following Is the letter sent out to the growers: "As this corporation Is borrowing and has to pay a large amount of interest to the hanks, it was thought to-lay by the hoard of directors that perhaps a great many of the growers would desire to earn 7 per cent interest on the money they may have no use for between now and their spring expenses. Therefore, if any grower who has made his delivery, will inform this olilce as to how much of his money he desires to leave, the corporation will he pleased to give him its promissory note payable at such time as lie may desire. "To the larger growers, will say that it will he agreeable to the corporation, if to them, to store their raisins on their own premises and the rompauy will pay interest on the value of the said raisins from November 1st until such time ns we may require them delivered to the packing houses.

This will great assist us in handling the crop, which this season is ready to he delivered a month earlier than usual, and there are not acking house or warehouse facilities enough to take in at once all the raisins produced. Enough of the raisins are sold to he shipped as fast as we can manage to get them packed, so that we feel confident in saying we will conveniently he able to handle Hie whole crop before the end of November. "We trust the growers will see the advisability of earning this interest. We will then he practically financing our own company the whole year with our own money. Another notice was sent out to the growers Thursday, requesting them to hold hack at feast tine-half of their raisins for (lie present, until more storage lucilities can he secured.

Following is the notice: "Owing to the whole crop of raisins being dried and ready for delivery at this time, it has proven to be an almost impossible task to take all the raisins in at one time. Therefore we will ask you to assist us as far ns possible by not delivering more than one-half your raisins at this time. We will then be In position to take the balance later in the month." I. Hall, Deceased vv39t5 IL Bakersfield, Oct. 11 Judge Poairs of the superior court on Friday sustained the judgment rendered by Justice George Flournoy a year and three months ago in the case of the San Joaquin Valley Commercial Association against the Southern Pacific railroad, in which the plaintiff was given judgment for $12.99, overcharges on a shipment of paint from Oakland to Bakersfield, consigned to It. Pile of this city. The claim for overcharge made on the ground that the constitution of the state forbade a greater charge for a short haul than for a long haul, over the same tracks in the same direction, and that the rate between any two points on the way from San Francisco to Los Angeles could not be in excess of the rate charged between the latter two cities. On this decision hang about 2700 similar claims aggregating about $175,000.

T. E. Smith, traffic manager for the Association, tomorrow will file 220 claims aggregating $5000 for overcharges between October 10th and 31st, 1911, in order to keep within the statute of limitations. The re- Fresno, Oct. 9.

This, at least, Is 2,500 tons more than the raisins that were actually on hand. "They also state that the 1913 crop will be 85,000 tons. R. MeQUlDDY, Secretary. Oct: her 9, 1913. w41t5 NOTICE OF COMMISSIONERS Sill to suggest a In addition to tlie claims of tlie San Joaquin Valley Commercial Association, Smith and others have prepared a great number of claims for overcharge, on similar grounds in the southern part of the state and Arizona. Rulings of the Stale Railroad Commission are to tlie effect that claims for overcharges of this character cannot ho sustained on shipments prior to tlie adoption of the constitutional amendment of Oeloner 10, 1911, nnd on March 27, 1912, the commosston approved the higher rate for the shorter haul.

On shipments between these two dates, however, the San Joaquin Valley Commercial Association will seek to recover. crop of 1913. They are leading tlie trade to believe that there will be from 15,000 to 20,000 more tons of raisins than the actual output. "They further state that there will lie from 5,000 to 10,000 tons of second crop, if they are cured. Now everybody knows lmt the second crop this year is extremely small, nnd with tlie good prices tlie wineries are offering, there will he no second crop cured.

We call the growers attention to these misleading statements which are not in their interest, nnd we feel confident in saying that we will undoubtedly be uble to market nil the raisins of tlie 1912 crop ns well ns what is produced tills season. All we ask Is that every grower live up to Ids contract nnd not strengthen the hand of the opposition. NOTH TO KED1 TOR'.
